What is afc1903.com?
In the close to 20 years since I first departed the North-East, I’ve consumed numerous hours of Dons-related content on podcasts, local news coverage, social media and internet forums. However, I’ve been frustrated in my search for Dons-related written material, beyond the scope of the P&J, the club website and 140 character limits. Especially, in comparison to the level of analysis that is afforded clubs outside of Scotland.
This website/blog is an attempt to fill some of that void. If I was seeking this out, I’ve wagered others might too.
What Can I Expect?
Weekly posts related to exploring Aberdeen FC from a tactical and data perspective. I try to provide an objective option as much as possible.
Originally this was a game recap and a game preview. Time/work/kids (the youzhe) has made this harder but I’m usually good for 1000 words every week. Unless it’s the summer in which case I’ll be on sabbatical from last kick to first kick.
Who am I?
A born and raised teuchter, I currently reside on the East Coast of the USA and live vicariously through all you match-going Reds and doff my cap to you all from my RedTV International ivory tower.
My first Dons match was at Pittodrie in December 1990 against Motherwell. A 1-1 draw.
I’ve a particular fondness for Jamie Smith having been in the RDS for his last-minute winner against Rangers, and present for that wonderful night against Copenhagen.
Eoin Jess, was, is, and forever will be, my hero.
For a brief period of twenty minutes or so, at Hampden in May 2000, I did actually think we maybe could win the Cup with Robbie Winters in goal.
Neil Simpson once called me ‘Ceefax’ at an SFA Goalgetters Camp
My favourite film production of all-time is Team of the Decade.
Many years ago I graduated with a BSc in Science and Football, and I’ve been writing on and off about football for a number of years and in 2023 I published my first book, on the early days of the European Cup. The first season of which, of course, should have featured the Dons.
